Movie Day X Three

April 26, 2008

Thursday was Take Your Child To Work Day.

So while the kid and husband were out playing with guns and police dogs I was home alone.

In my usual productive manner, out to save the world and all, I stayed home in the dark and watched three movies: August Rush (9 stars), I Want Someone To Eat Cheese With (7 stars) and Death at a Funeral (10 stars).

Obviously, my favorite was Death at a Funeral, although I thoroughly enjoyed expressing random misery and tears over August Rush.

Keri Russell plays the lead female role in August and she’s just fun to look at, perfectly pretty. The story is completely unrealistic, yet entertaining.  Beautiful & heartwarming, all the same.

Jeff Garlin’s movie about cheese and the romantic frustrations of a fat man was funny in parts but a bit esoteric for my taste.  I’m not crazy about interpretive endings. Give me the whole story, please.

I did particularly enjoy Sarah Silverman and her line about a “hoagie shack.”  I like the idea of making oddball sexual comments to strangers.

Haven’t you ever wanted to lick your lips suggestively when looking at some random person in a car next to you at a traffic light?  Well, I have.  It’s like I’ve had two separate lifetimes and I enjoy being reminded of my former inappropriate self.  Thank you, Sarah!

As for Death at a Funeral, it’s just funny as hell from beginning to end. It’s a dark English comedy with bits about death, sibling rivalry, homosexual secrets, a dwarf & hallucinogens. I felt very much at home, like it was 1978, downstate Illinois.

Get this movie!  It’s great!
